Beverly Hills Breast Reduction Surgery
Helping Reduce Discomfort & Boost Your Confidence
Incisions trace the area of skin and tissue to be expelled and the new nipple position. Skin is excised and redraped to reshape the breast. Sutures close the incisions. Scars around the areola, below it, and in the crease under the breast will exist, but can be easily concealed by clothing.
Breast reduction at this plastic surgery practice is reserved for patients with large, pendulous breasts that cause a multitude of problems including:
- Back pain
- Neck pain
- Skin irritations or infections under the breast
- Indentations over the shoulders caused by pressure from bra straps
If you’re self-conscious about the large size and shape of your breasts, this procedure may be ideal for you. If you have discomfort related to the weight of your breasts, you should consider a breast reduction.*
How Breast Reduction Works
The reduction involves subtraction of fat and glandular breast tissue, along with excess skin. The surgical techniques involved in breast reduction are very similar to a breast lift, so you can expect some repositioning and reshaping as well.
Performed under general anesthesia, breast reduction typically requires an incision shaped like an anchor or inverted T, circling the areola and extending down to the breast crease. With liposuction and excision techniques, the excess tissue and skin is extracted to reshape the breasts. Smaller, lighter and firmer breasts that are shaped in proportion to the rest of the body are then achieved.
What to Expect After Your Breast Reduction
After your breast reduction, the incisions and sutures will be covered in gauze and tape. A special recovery bra will be provided, which will need to be worn for a few weeks. In some cases, surgical drains will be placed to remove any fluid that accumulates after surgery. Some discomfort, swelling, and bruising is normal after breast reduction. Dr. Aboolian will prescribe medications to help manage discomfort during your recovery.
Possible Side Effects or Complications of Breast Reduction
Like all procedures in cosmetic surgery, there are risks and complications that can occur. Changes in nipple/breast sensation can happen after surgery, which can be temporary or long lasting. Infection, bleeding, reaction to anesthesia, breast asymmetry, and reaction to anesthesia are other possible complications. Ask Dr. Aboolian for more information if you are concerned about these possibilities.
This procedure may be covered by health insurance. If you have health insurance, it is wise to discuss coverage of this procedure with Dr. Aboolian so that the appropriate investigative inquiries can be made.
