Nose Surgery

Rhinoplasty or reshaping of the nose is among the most common cosmetic procedures performed in our practice. The ideal nose varies in each individual based on factors such as the proportion of the nose to other facial structures, the skin type and thickness, ethnicity and sex just to name a few. Rhinoplasty alters the shape of the nose by either reducing or increasing the size of the nose, removing an unwanted hump, change the angle between the nose and upper lip, change the shape of the tip, narrow the width of the nostrils, and etc. This procedure may be performed as a closed technique where all the incisions are hidden inside the nose, or may be performed as a closed technique where all the incisions are hidden inside the nose, or may be performed as an open technique where in addition to the hidden incisions inside the nose there is also an externally non-visible incision near the base of the columella. The approach is decided based on what needs to be accomplished. Rhinoplasty may be done in conjunction with chin surgery to achieve a more balanced appearance, or other facial procedures. In addition to the aesthetic reasons rhinoplasty is also performed for functional reasons such as correction of breathing or snoring problems or after trauma to the nose. Non-cosmetic nasal operations are covered under some health insurance policies.
