Neck Contouring

Rejuvenating the neck may be achieved by either or a combination of liposuction, neck tightening (platysmaplasty) or neck lift. The treatment of choice is based on the individual patient’s problem and his/her goals. Patients with good skin tone and localized fat accumulation in the neck are candidates for liposuction only or liposuction with platysmaplasty (tightening of neck muscles). During liposuction the tumescent technique is used in order to minimize the post operative pain and swelling. Fat deposits in the neck may also be treated with direct excision instead of liposuction. Patients with vertical bands on their neck and/or weakening of their neck muscles causing the development of the “gobble or turkey neck” may benefit form platysmaplasty. If the skin is too excessive or wrinkled it is best treated by excision with a neck lift. For patients who are face lift candidates, neck contouring is part of the procedure. With any of these procedures the results are immediate, with the maximum affect noticed in seven to ten days.
