Liposuction

Liposuction is the surgical removal of fat using hollow tubes, called cnnulae. The goal is to diminish, contour, sculpt and thus create a marked reduction in size. Dr.Aboolian uses the “tumescent technique” combined with ultrasound assisted liposuction (UAL). The tumescent technique involves injecting dilute numbing medication and adrenalin with the infiltrating solution under the skin, thus allowing for decreased post operative degree of discomfort. The advantages of using the UAL are that it selectively disintegrates or melts the fat from very dense areas such as the upper abdomen, back, waist area and male breasts. Previously liposuctioed areas are also ideal for the use of UAL. The main benefits of the UAL to the patient are a lot less bruising and pain post operatively. Large volume liposuction is arbitrarily defined as more then 5,000 cc of pure fat removal. Volumes over 6,000 cc of pure fat are done in a hospital setting.
