Labiaplasty
Labiaplasty is a cosmetic procedure that alters the labia minora, reducing their size and improving symmetry. If the labia protrude significantly, it can affect a woman’s self-confidence or even cause hygiene issues. Labiaplasty is performed to address these issues, without affecting sensation of this sensitive area.
Is Labiaplasty Right for You?
If experience discomfort or are unhappy about the external appearance of your labia, this procedure may be right for you. Good candidates often report difficulty with clothing, intercourse or hygiene due to enlarged or irregular labia.
Is labiaplasty an outpatient procedure?
Labiaplasty is performed on an outpatient basis, under local anesthesia with sedation. General anesthesia is also an option. Operating time is roughly 1-2 hours. During surgery, the surgeon will reduce the excess tissue of the labia while maintaining a natural shape. Dissolvable sutures will close the incisions, so the removal of stitches will not be necessary during follow-up visits.
How long do I have to stay home from work following labiaplasty surgery?
Most patients return to work within 3 to 5 days of surgery.

What to Expect After the Procedure
You will be sent home with special instructions for post-operative care. Dr. Aboolian will prescribe a pain medication to help control discomfort during this time. Activities such as exercise and sex will need to be postponed for about 4 weeks. Swelling resolves gradually, becoming unnoticeable after approximately 2 weeks. It may take 3 months or longer to fully appreciate the final aesthetic outcome of labiaplasty.
