Eyelid Surgery
In our practice each year hundreds of men and women choose eyelid surgery (blephroplasty) to help restore a more energetic and youthful appearance. This involves removal of excess skin and/or fat from the upper and lower eyelids. For the upper eyelids blephroplasty corrects droopy and tired look, while for the lower lids it rids of the “puffy bags” and wrinkles. The upper or lower lids can be done alone, together, or in combination with other facial procedures as needed. If the sagging of the upper lids is the cause of visiual impairment this procedure may be covered under some health insurance policies.
The fine wrinkles seen commonly on the lower eyelids may be removed with either Botox or by improving the skin texture around the eyes with chemical peels or laser resurfacing. The crow’s feet (fine wrinkles on the lateral side of the eyes) may be improved either during face lift surgery by cutting the muscles responsible or by using Botox to paralyze the same muscles for patients not going under surgery.
In patients with prominent tear-troughs fat grafting can help rid of the hollowed look commonly seen in the lower eye lid area.
