Procedures That Augment the Cheeks
Cheek augmentation can be successfully done with surgical and non-surgical methods. Each method involves placement of a cheek implant: filler material can be injected or a silicone rubber implant can be surgically placed.
Cheek implants come in a variety of shapes and sizes to match the facial characteristics of each patient. They can be surgically placed through a small incision in your upper lip or lower eyelid. Dr. Aboolian creates a pocket for the implant and secures it below the facial tissue.
With the latest dermal fillers, a long-lasting result is possible without surgery. Products such as Radiesse, Juvederm and Restylane are all available at our Beverly Hills plastic surgery practice. Dr. Aboolian may recommend one of these fillers for a cheek augmentation procedure. Using a numbing cream or dental block to manage discomfort, the filler is injected into the cheeks to increase projection. In many cases, the stimulation of your body’s own collagen will produce long-lasting results.
What to Expect After Cheek Augmentation
Both methods of cheek augmentation will produce results that are immediately visible. You should see fewer wrinkles and a supple, more voluminous facial appearance.
Recovery times vary, depending on the method chosen and if other procedures are done in conjunction with your cheek augmentation. It will take some time for swelling to subside. With a dermal filler, the results can last 6-14 months. Cheek implants produce permanent results, unless you choose to have them removed.
Possible Complications With Cheek Augmentation
