body contouring after weight loss, tummy tuck surgery, abdominoplasty, post bariatric body contouringAbdominoplasty, more widely known as tummy tuck, is an increasingly popular surgery in the US and around the world. A new report from the British Association of Aesthetic Plastic Surgeons (BAAPS) has revealed an increase in that country’s demand for tummy tucks: 15 percent among men and 7 percent among women. In a recent article on EIN News, Austin plastic surgeon Dr. Rocco Piazza says that this trend is reflected in his practice.

Tummy tuck surgery has improved significantly over the past decade. Some of the more recent innovations have meant that patients experience:

  • less strain on the skin and underlying tissues
  • shorter recovery times
  • superior, longer-lasting results
  • customized procedures that match an individual’s body type
  • combined surgical and non-surgical approaches for maximum results

One of the most appealing things about abdominoplasty is its ability to be combined with other body contouring surgeries, especially after weight loss resulting from bariatric surgery. These include liposuction, which removes unwanted fatty deposits and smooths the contours of the body, and body lift surgery, which combines different procedures for an overall body transformation. Brazilian buttocks lifts often complement the outcomes offered by tummy tuck surgery.

Dr. Piazza usually attempts to offer his patients individualized body contouring surgeries. “Depending on the person’s body type and cosmetic goals, I perform varying amounts of contouring. While sculpting the abdominal skin flap, I make sure to provide the perfect degree of shaping to complement the person’s body.

“There are countless ways to personalize the procedure to match a person’s exact body type,” Dr. Piazza says.

While many surgeons can perform tummy tucks and similar surgeries, the best results can be achieved with a board-certified plastic surgeon. If you’re considering tummy tuck surgery, be sure to consult with an experienced plastic surgeon who has specialized in the field of body contouring.

©A.M.P.A.S.® Source: http://www.oscars.orgThe glittering world of the Academy Awards is certainly no stranger to plastic surgery. But the benefits extend far beyond the techniques of liposuction and breast augmentation, and this year at the Oscars will see a representative of the less-known side of the profession. London plastic surgeon Mohammad Jawad will walk the red carpet as the subject of an Oscar-nominated documentary called Saving Face.

For years, Dr. Jawad has made regular trips to his native Pakistan to treat victims of acid attacks, which often take place in cases of domestic violence. As Jawad told the London Evening Standard in a recent interview: “Doing this kind of work, I feel I’m trying to restore the trust and build the confidence of ordinary people that plastic surgery is a very noble and gifted profession.”

American filmmaker Daniel Junge followed Dr. Jawad to Pakistan and documented his noble work in treating acid attack victims. Tragic and grotesque as it sounds, acid attacks are a surprisingly widespread problem in Pakistan, and the film also features the work of Islamabad-based NGO Acid Survivors Foundation of Pakistan. The act of hurling acid at a victim’s face has lifelong repercussions, with horrendous disfigurements, serious physical harm, psychological trauma, and social ostracism. Most of the victims are women.

Fortunately, thanks to the efforts of people like Dr. Jawad, many Pakistanis suffering from the effects of acid attacks are able to find new life with facial reconstruction surgery. In 2010, Pakistan’s Parliament enacted legislation that made acid violence punishable by life imprisonment. You can learn more about efforts to staunch acid attacks at the ASF website. People watching the Academy Awards on February 26 should watch for Saving Face in the category Best Documentary, Short Subject.

From Beverly Hills to Miami, sensual curves created by Brazilian butt lifts have become more and more popular, thanks in part to buxom celebrities like Jennifer Lopez and Kim Kardashian. Florida plastic surgeon Constantino Mendieta, who says that he invented the “Miami thong lift” about 10 years ago, says that his practice is now almost 85 percent gluteal contouring. Here’s a look at an increasingly popular trend in the world of plastic surgery.

What is the Brazilian butt lift?

The natural curves of the body can be accentuated by making the buttocks bigger and giving the body an hourglass look. This can often be performed alongside breast augmentation in order to provide maximum results. The procedure is quite simple. Liposuction removes fat from the thighs, tummy, or back. This can reduce the appearance of fatty deposits in problem areas. The fat is then injected into the buttocks.

How well does it work?

While the body will reabsorb some of the fat, usually about 20 percent, many patients report excellent results after the first procedure. In some cases, however, patients may need to return for a touch-up procedure, especially if there is asymmetry between the buttocks. Plastic surgeons with experience in Brazilian butt lifts can often avoid this and other unwanted consequences of the surgery.

What happens after a Brazilian butt lift?

Dr. Mendieta says that he usually advises “thong lift” patients to avoid sleeping on their backs or put pressure on their buttocks for two months. This is the best way to protect the newly injected fat cells and minimize the risk of reabsorption.

Patients who have received gluteal contouring surgery are usually very happy with the results. Jenny Fitz, one of Dr. Mendieta’s patients who came from Bolivia to have it done, says that she loves her new body, joking that she used to look like SpongeBob SquarePants.
